Response to your raised concern |

Good afternoon, We’re aware of concerns that have been raised about a dog reported to have been dangerously out of control along the canal network around the Cowling Brow, Adlington and Rivington areas, and we wanted to update you on the action that has been taken. Earlier this month, we received reports that the dog was behaving aggressively, barking at and intimidating people using the canal towpaths. Since then, our Chorley Neighbourhood Policing Team has been carrying out enquiries and working behind the scenes to address the concerns raised by the community. As a result, the dog's owner has been identified and issued with a Community Protection Warning (CPW). A CPW is a formal warning requiring the owner to take steps to ensure their dog is properly controlled and to prevent any further incidents. Failure to comply could result in further enforcement action.
The warning requires the owner to: To have your dog chipped, on a secure collar and on a secure lead of no more than 6 feet, in any public place/highway, including alleyways whether gated or ungated and on any canal towpath. (please ensure the chip is up to date with your full details, home address and phone number) Not to allow any person uner the age of 18 (eighteen) to walk any dog you own or are in charge of. Not to allow your dogs or any other dog you're in charge of to act or be perceived as out of control or a danger to members of the public at anytime. Not to allow your dog to roam free at any time, this includes your home address. Not to tie your dogs lead or rope onto a fence or post and leave the dog unattended.
We understand the impact incidents like this can have on those who use these areas, and we hope this update reassures residents that concerns raised to us are being taken seriously and acted upon. If you have any concerns about a dog that may be dangerously out of control, please report it to us on 101 so that we can investigate. Thank you for your continued support.
